Belated Happy Holidays!

Hello everyone! Sorry for the MIA action, I’ve been out of town. I hope everyone’s New Years was just as amazing as mine! šŸ™‚

It’s that time to start off with a clean slate & I know everyone has their New Years resolutions, but the common mistake is trying to start with the bigger changes rather than just taking it step by step. Losing weight is a popular resolution for many (including myself), and this time i’m going to start with small changes (for example, choosing a salad instead of a heavy appetizer like spinach dip, mmm). Also, with healthier eating you’ve gotta exercise!

here’s a cool image i stumbled upon for a quick daily workout:

Cheers to a fantastic and healthy year!

Ps.

What are some of YOUR New Years resolutions?

Sunday Afternoon.

Hello everyone! I’m recovering from a little cold, which sucks, but you gotta keep on truckin’ šŸ™‚ Yesterday I watched the Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight (so sad Manny lost, but that knockout was intense lol). My younger cousin decided to google “hashtags” about Pacquiao and about an hour later (maybe even less) there were 48,000 memes and such comical things about the knockout. I’ve got to admit, some of them were pretty clever.

Anyhoo, I hope everyone is safe, healthy, & doing well! I know it’s the holidays and it’s hard to stick with working out and eating healthy (which is still kinda hard for me too!), but fit in a little daily activity like walking your dog, dancing like a maniac for 5 minutes (alone of course), or cleaning the house (desperate times call for desperate measures lol). Remember, “A healthy body leads to a healthy mind” šŸ™‚

Lastly, I’m gunna leave you all with this awesome pasta sauce recipe that I happened to stumble upon: Creamy Avocado Pasta

IMG_20121017_211938 2

I made this last night, and it was so delicious! I love avocado and this was such a great pasta sauce, it was creamy, zesty, and just flavorful. I used regular thin spaghetti, and for the amazing piece of salmon there, I heated up some extra virgin olive oil in a pan, placed the thawed filet of salmon in, seasoned it with a little garlic salt, lemon, and pepper. After its halfway cooked, I like to add fresh minced garlic (I don’t add it in the beginning because it ends up being super burned when the salmon is finished). I let the salmon sit with the fresh garlic so that all the flavors are absorbed (Mmm, I’m getting hungry just typing this lol). For additional flavor, you can make a tartar sauce or (what I personally love & prefer) caramelized onions (you can follow these steps: caramelized onions) I also like to add a little soy sauce and garlic to the onions for more flavor. Enjoy with a nice glass of wine & bonĀ appĆ©tit!

I hope you all enjoy this awesome recipe! Stay safe & have a great day, Cheers!

phew!

Hello everyone! So it’s been a long week already! My computer charger broke (which explains my lack of updating), so luckily a friend let me borrow his for a little. I ordered a new one in the mail, and hopefully I get it by the end of today šŸ™‚

My workout schedule hasn’t been quite what I’d like it to be, but since it’s finals this week and next.. I think I can slide with doing lighter workouts (so I don’t exhaust myself!) I’ve been extremely tired due to my lack of sleep and unawareness of the foods I’ve been grabbing on my spare time. But today is a good day so far because I started it off with quick workout & aĀ deliciousĀ mixed berry/pomegranateĀ smoothie.. I’m feeling extra energetic šŸ™‚Ā

Anyhoo, my laptop is about to die šŸ˜¦ but I hope everything is going well for all of you & that your day is amazing! Cheers!

ā€œA man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.ā€ ~Vince Lombardi

Rain (or Shine).

Hello everyone! So it’s been raining and although I like the rain, I also dislike it because it can make me super lazy. Yesterday was my rest/(lazy) day, which I kinda feel guilty for lol, but I am only human right? I haven’t workout out yet, I’ll probably go walk the dogs after work. Meh, I feel like I’m falling off track here.. it’s just so hard, does anyone feel the same? I guess this is why you have to be strong and find that inner strength to stick with it. Deep breaths, if I can start this journey, YOU can too šŸ™‚

For some of you that have gym memberships or even just a treadmill, I’ve come across some awesome workouts from FitSugar that I’d like to share! (treadmills are also fantastic and “excuse-proof” when it comes to rainy weather)

For beginners this is an awesomeĀ 40-minute walking/running workout (I love this because it’s just perfect if I just need a lighter workout): Treadmill Workout for Beginners

If you’re ready to do a longer workout, thisĀ 60-minute walk-jog workout is great! (I like this because it’s not too exhausting, but I feel amazing after): Walk/Jog Treadmill Workout

Lastly, if you’re feeling great and want to do a little more, this is an excellent 30-minute interval running workout. (I love interval training, it just gets the heart pumping and is more intense because of the speed changes): Treadmill Pyramid Intervals

Cheers!

happy wednesday.

Hello everyone! phew, it has been a super busy day for me.. I’m trying to mentally prep myself that I am going to work out when I get home tonight no matter what time it is..no excuses! It’ll be day 4 of Insanity, and I’m actually feeling really great (although my calves are killing me!). I’ve been very conscious about what I’ve been eating lately, & I’m hoping to turn this into a daily habit (cross fingers).

I also made a smoothie this morning for breakfast (Iā€™ve recently put out my blender and have since become obsessed with making smoothies..theyā€™re just so easy to make). This smoothie was exactly what I needed to boost my energy. It wasnā€™t too sweet or tart. I loved the natural sweetness of everything combined (I know spinach is kind of odd to add in there, but it does wonders for your body and you really dont even taste it). Hope you all enjoy!

Ingredients:

– 1 Handful of chopped carrots

– 1 Handful of spinach

– 1 cup Frozen blueberries

– About 8 Strawberries

– 1 cup Green Tea (chilled or room temp, you can also substitue for almond or soy milk, yogurt, or water.. I decided to add half a cup of organic soy milk too)

– 1/2 cup crushed ice

Blend all ingredients until liquid and smooth.

Have a good day everyone, cheers!

oh my.

Hello everyone! I just finished day 3 of the insanity workout (including the fit test). This program sure does show me how out of shape I’ve gotten! I just need to stay with it, even if it means going at a slower pace. It’s just so hard to keep motivated these days. Anyway if anyone out there has some tips that I should know while doing the insanity workout, please let me know.. I’ll be forever grateful šŸ™‚

Before I go off to continuing my busy day, I wanna share with you all a very inspirational quote, “Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow”-Robert Kiyosaki

Every time I read this, I don’t give myself any excuses to not work out. Even if its just 10 push-ups fit into my busy day, at least it’s something. You have to start somewhere right? Anything you do, and continue to do is good progress in my book šŸ™‚

Have a great day! Cheers!

broccoli parmesan fritters.

broccoli parmesan fritters.

The other day I found a recipe online for this delicious broccoli goodness! I’m so happy to have stumbled upon this because I had the ingredients & immediately whipped up some fritters. Boy, oh boy were they fantastic! Instead of having it with sour cream as the recipe recommends (and which I should have had, to be more healthier), I indulged a bit and had these fritters with a garlic & herb whipped cheese spread (almost like brie cheese). Bon appetit!

I’m back.

Let’s hope it’s for good! I do apologize šŸ˜¦ it’s been years. So much has been going on in my life, and now i’m starting to find a happy medium.

I recently got into running charitable events & that has been keeping me busy (minus school and work). I’m really hoping to re-new this blog. I would love to take anyone that happens to stumble upon here on my fitness journey (don’t worry, i’ll try my best to keep the informative reviews and fun stuff up to date as well!)

These past couple of years have been rough, & my body has (unfortunately) had to pay the price.Ā There was stress, school, work, relationships, etc. The list goes on, and before I knew it I had gained over 50 pounds. Itā€™s amazing, yet odd how you dont even notice how or when the pounds accumulated. Then all of a sudden, BAM, you donā€™t fit into clothes that used to fit, and that number on the scale is unbearable to look at. Iā€™m still confused as to what the heck went wrong, but I do know that Iā€™m guilty of not watching or caring about what went into my body.

Also, Iā€™ve lost a very dear person in my life recently, which has caused me to hit rock bottom. I have spent countless nights drinking with friends and eating out almost everyday.. just to forget the pain I hold in my heart.

But I canā€™t do this to myself anymore, and Iā€™m ready to change. I want to eat healthier, think healthier, and be healthier. This is my epiphany.

So if anyone out there is going through a similar situation or have any helpful tips or even some motivation to push this way, please feel free to share! My main goal here is to keep track of my progress, share new things I discover about how to live a healthy lifestyle (recipes, workouts, etc.)

Oh, and about my rekindled love of running.. I’ve recently done the Pasadena Kaiser Permanente 10k in May, Pasadena Awesome 80s 10k run in September (i think), and the Women’s Nike Half Marathon in San francisco. I take pride in finishing all of these because they’re such big accomplishments, plus I love meeting new people and enjoying the scenic routes! I’m pretty much addicted, and the next ones I’m running are the Live Ultimate 10k and the Hollywood Half Marathon. I love doing runs that support a good cause, theres nothing like helping others..while getting fit!

I’m really excited about sharing this journey with everyone, cheers to living a healthy life šŸ™‚

Hello everyone! I know it’s been forever, but I have decided to make a comeback =) Lately I have been extremely busy with my moving to a new apartment, the start of nursing school, and many more eventful things. But since the new year I have been trying to focus on being consistent, and what better way to do so! So I will be updating more often on important issues that have been going on in society and around the world. Until then, take care & have a great day!
